Birmingham, Ala., October 13, 2020 – NXTsoft (nxtsoft.com), a company focused on cybersecurity solutions and API connectivity, today announced a major enhancement to its ThreatAdvice Educate platform, a solution that provides employee cybersecurity education and awareness to SMB’s of all types.
Companies who utilize ThreatAdvice Educate for cybersecurity education and awareness training for their employees will now be able to simulate SMS-phishing (also known as smishing) messages to their employees in an effort to ensure employees are adequately trained on SMS-phishing attempts so as not to fall victim to an attack and potentially compromise company information.
Verizon’s Mobile Index Security 2020 survey noted that 28% of companies who responded had suffered a mobile-related security compromise and 60% of the SMBs that experienced a mobile-related compromise said that the effects were major, and 30% said that it had lasting repercussions.
NXTsoft currently conducts phishing simulation for its ThreatAdvice Educate customers, but realized with SMS-phishing attempts on the rise, end-users needed to be tested on their ability to recognize a SMS-phish just as well as a phish in order to ensure the security of personal and company data.
If a ThreatAdvice Educate customer elects to implement the SMS-phishing module, once a quarter a smish will be sent to the cell phone number that an employee uses to conduct company business. A report will then be provided to management highlighting the statistics associated with the SMS-phishing campaign and identifying employees who might need additional guidance and training.
“Unfortunately, threat actors are continuing to look for new ways to compromise businesses and individuals. As soon as we start to get a handle on one method, they have another new method that they utilize,” said Will Blackburn, chief technology officer for NXTsoft. “The only way we can fight the bad guys is through continual education, awareness and simulation exercises. Be augmenting ThreatAdvice Educate with SMS-phishing simulations, we hope to help our customers stay on top of the latest cybersecurity threats and keep their businesses safe.”
All NXTsoft ThreatAdvice Educate customers can add the SMS-Phishing module to their current solution for an additional charge.
